Alien IP is trace routing software that resolves domain names, pings IP addresses, and shows the location of remote hosts on the world map. It supplies detailed information about remote domains, email senders and web site visitors. Alien IP has a clear and straightforward interface that provides an abundance of information about remote domains that connect to your system.

In the broadband world of today with the large number of site visitors daily, it is sometimes difficult to track down every domain that connects to your system. Often, however, there is a need to do so. In those cases, Alien IP can track the geographical location and show it on the map. The program will help you pin down unwanted domains so their access to the user system can be blocked. For instance, if you market a product on the Internet, knowing the nationality of the lead can help you make a more targeted campaign. The new version of the program also offers much more than just showing a domain's location. It allows you to process web logs, ping remote addresses, and trace the route to their exact location. The ability to quickly trace a domain can also help to stem the leak of important personal information. And we kept the program interface clear and simple so it doesn't bog down the user.

The detailed world map, toolbar and a status bar are the key elements of the interface, providing access to all program features. To start tracing the route to a domain, the user just pastes the name or IP address into a drop-down box on the tool bar and clicks on the "go" button.

The database tables contain geodata of the Federal Republic of Germany with geo referenced towns, municipalities, town quarters and other administrative units, postal codes, telephone preselections and nature areas, landscapes and climatic zones. The data contain coordinates for navigation and geo-coding, proximity searches and distance computations and are prepered for the spatial mapping of environmental information. Quite often it is necessary to reference an address field e.g. like town or municipality name, postal code or telephone preselection, to corresponding geographical data and coordinates - a Geo Reference. The geo reference can be used for example to direct a customer to the closest store locations of a retail store chain by doing a proximity search. Another possibility it to determine distances between the different objects of the database tables with the included geo references. With the elevation data from a Digital Elevation Model the ground level height of each place can be determined. Often the knowledge is necessary about affiliations and relationships between data derived from different hierarchies. So it can be determined to which federal state, governmental area or governmental county a town, a postal code or a telephone preselection is associated. It is possible to assign a variety of natural and scenic information to each town or municipality. The snow and wind load zones are available as local climatic data. For the area of the Federal Republic of Germany more than 2,7 million street coordinates with a coverage of 100% are available. The geo data offered here are in high-precision quality and are present in different coordinate and reference systems. Street coordinates or also called street section coordinates are meaning the summary of several postal house addresses to an averaged position on street or street section basis. The streetd coordinates are to be used with applications, which are developed to assign street oriented address groups exact positions. Street-exact geo data are on the one hand less expensive than the high resolution house-exact geo data, on the other hand they are more exact than the economically priced administrative geo data. The possible field of application is very various. E.g. own address lists can be enriched with geo references and visualized on suitable map material. The application scope reaches from information systems over navigation services, geo marketing, telecommunications and UTMS based services up to Web applications and tasks of the power authorities and security services. Another point of interest can be the establishing relationships between data derived from different hierarchies and levels. For example, it could be desirable to know to which federal state, administrative district and city a building belongs to. The coordinates of the streets are present as geographic coordinates, UTM coordinates and Gauss-Krueger coordinates. Geographical coordinates in degree notation are particularly suitable well for searches with Google Earth. Here is as an example an Internet URL with coordinates from the "Geo Data German Streets", which can represent the location of Killet Software Ing.-GbR: "http://maps.google.com/maps?t=k&ll=51.397363,6.450883&spn=0.002,0.002". The first value behind the identifier "ll" (lat / lon) is the geographical latitude, then the geographical longitude follows.

Here the available data fields of the tables are specified: National identification of the country, local identification for the place within the country, postal zip code, town name, town quarter name, local administrative identification (municipality key), geographical longitude and geographical latitude in degree and deg/min/sec notation, UTM easting and UTM northing on the natural and an uniformal meridian strip, Ground elevation over the sea level, 4 hierarchical administrative units, which are superordinate the place. First the data base tables are present in a standard file format (dBase, ASCII / OEM character set). They can be imported directly into MS-EXCEL, MS-ACCESS and in Borlands dBase. In addition the data base tables can be converted with the downloadable freeware program CONVERT into different data formats with the necessary characteristics, selections and sort sequences. For example you can convert the data into the SDF format (Simple Document Format) or into the CSV format (Comma Separated Value) using character sets ASCII / OEM or ANSI / WINDOWS or direct in MySQL.
