The database contain geodata of the Federal Republic of Germany with geo referenced towns, municipalities, town quarters, administrative units, postal codes, telephone preselections, nature areas and landscapes. The data contain coordinates for navigation and geo-coding, proximity searches and distance computations and for the mapping of nature area and landscape information. Quite often it is necessary to reference an address field e.g. like town or municipality name, postal code or telephone preselection, to corresponding geographical data and coordinates - a Geo Reference. The geo reference can be used for example to direct a customer to the closest store locations of a retail store chain by doing a proximity search. Another possibility it to determine distances between the different objects of the database tables with the included geo references. With the elevation data from a Digital Elevation Model the ground level height of each place can be determined. Often the knowledge is necessary about affiliations and relationships between data derived from different hierarchies. So it can be determined to which federal state, governmental area or governmental county a town, a postal code or a telephone preselection is associated. It is possible to assign a variety of natural and scenic information to each town or municipality. In the Dynamic Link Library GeoDLL geodesic functions like 2D and 3D coordinate transformation, datum changes, meridian strip changes, user defined coordinate and reference systems, distance calculation, maps functions, Digital Elevation Models and more geodesic functions are contained to bind them into own applications. WINDOWS operating system allows building of function libraries intended for use by applications, the so-called Dynamic Link Libraries. The application uses functions stored in the DLL by making a DLL call. The language used for developing applications that call functions of the DLL is not important. It could be C++, Delphi, MS-Access, Visual Basic or CA-Visual Objects or other. Therefore the DLL is delivered with interface source codes to many programming languages. With GeoDLL world wide Coordinate Transformations and Reference System Transformations (datum shifts) are available: 1. The current and many historical Coordinate and Reference Systems of all States of the European Union (EU) including the eastern extension from April 2004 and other European Systems. 2. The US- and Canadian State Plane- and other Coordinate and Reference Systems of the North American Continent. 3.The Coordinate and Reference Systems of the Australian Continent. 4. A lot of Coordinate and Reference Systems of other Continents. 5. All world-wide used Coordinate and Reference Systems. 6. The German Coordinate and Reference Systems of the old and new Federal States, the 40 Prussian Soldner Land Registers, the German Lagestatus and exact Reference Systems of the German Federal States. Apart from this systems your own coordinate systems and geodetic reference systems can be defined with Helmert or Molodenski (Bursa / Wolf) parameters. The download contains a test composition of data cutouts of a lot of countries in different file formates and the exact data description. Here the available data fields of the tables are specified: National identification of the country, local identification for the place within the country, postal zip code, town name, town quarter name, local administrative identification (municipality key), geographical longitude and geographical latitude in degree and deg/min/sec notation, UTM easting and UTM northing on the natural and an uniformal meridian strip, Ground elevation over the sea level, 4 hierarchical administrative units, which are superordinate the place. First the data base tables are present in a standard file format (dBase, ASCII / OEM character set). They can be imported directly into MS-EXCEL, MS-ACCESS and in Borlands dBase. In addition the data base tables can be converted with the downloadable freeware program CONVERT into different data formats with the necessary characteristics, selections and sort sequences. For example you can convert the data into the SDF format (Simple Document Format) or into the CSV format (Comma Separated Value) using character sets ASCII / OEM or ANSI / WINDOWS or direct in MySQL.
